A cool, fairly wet winter and a superb spring gave quick, even budbreak, and a hot, dry July left the vines short of water, thickening the grape skins before a fine late season. Merlot makes up 80% of the blend, Cabernet Franc 19% and Cabernet Sauvignon 1%, from yields of 42 hl\/ha. The ripe Merlot supplies the muscle, while the Cabernet Franc adds freshness and aromatic length. Black cherry, blackberry and kirsch lead into tobacco leaf, dried spice and damp earth, and ample flesh surrounds the tannins before a close of dark chocolate and espresso. Critics see it running well into the 2050s.
