Neil Martin

95 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous: “The 2005 Pichon-Baron is showing impressively after 13 years. It boasts intense black cherry, raspberry coulis, graphite and mineral scents that gain intensity in the glass. There is nuance and detail here, perhaps more than any previous release of this Second Growth. The masculine palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin and an insistent grip in the mouth, indicative of its long-term intentions. The mineralité surfaces in a second half that demonstrates great tension and energy. There is considerably more length than previous vintages, and superior precision. An outstanding 2005 that deserves several more years in bottle. Tasted at the Pichon-Baron vertical at the château.” 1/19

98 Points, Jeff Leve, Wine Cellar Insider: “It has been a few years since I lasted this gem, but holly molly, this is really upped its game. There is more density, flesh, richness, fruit, length, and complexity. The tannins are present, but they are starting to mellow. There is a gentleness to the backbone and structure here, that was not present before. The palate enjoys the bath of perfectly ripe, powerful, yet silky blackberry and cassis that crosses its path. The finish leaves a long, lasting impression, making you want to taste it again and again. If you have a case or more and want to check in on its progress, pop a cork. Else, wait a decade. This is one of those wines that's worth the wait!” 7/18
