93 Points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate: "A pure expression of Sangiovese, the 2013 Percarlo is a plump and succulent wine. To my palate, it shows almost too much ripeness, and this comes as a surprise given the moderate and often cooler conditions of the 2013 growing season. The wine shows a seriously dark and impenetrable appearance with soft aromas of blackberry jam, spice and cherry liqueur. The alcohol here is measured at 14% and you feel it all. Despite that very ripe fruit profile, the wine is undeniably well made and impeccably put together." 10/17
98 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous: "A wine of extraordinary finesse, the 2013 Percarlo is utterly magnificent. Creamy and beautifully layered in the glass, the 2013 speaks to finesse more than the power and explosiveness that is often found here. With time in the glass, the mid-palate fleshes out and the flavors gain in intensity and darkness. When young, Percarlo is often forbiddingly tannic, but the gradual move towards larger format barrels and casks has, among other things, given the wine much more textural elegance. I can't wait to see how it ages. This is one of the most complete and strikingly beautiful wines of the vintage." 10/16
97 Points, James Suckling: "So much violet and flowers on the nose with dark fruits and wet earth. Full body, very structured and powerful with an intentional austerity forming the tannic backbone. A traditional and muscular red. Like a powerful Brunello. Fantastic strength. Needs another two or three years to soften." 10/17
94 Points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator: "Shows fine purity to the cherry and currant fruit, along with tobacco, iron and stone flavors. Racy and tightly wound, with an assertive structure that takes over on the finish. This is beginning to shut down, but remains incisive. Built to age.—Non-blind Percarlo vertical (August 2018). Best from 2022 through 2043. 1,300 cases made, 400 cases imported." 2019
