The palate is very well balanced, mellow and approachable, though with sufficient tannic backbone. This is taut and fresh, delivering just the right amount of mineralité on the finish. Bon vin! The bouquet soars from the glass in a sappy blend of black cherries, black plums, raw cocoa, gamebird, a beautifully complex base of soil, woodsmoke, violets and nutty new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, pure and already velvety on the attack, with its fullbodied format carrying great sappiness at the core, marvelous soil inflection, bright acids and a very, very long, seamlessly tannic and utterly refined finish. I have to imagine that someday, when this great wine has reached its apogee, it will drink a bit like the 1971 does today, but my gut instinct is that the 2015 Musigny is even better in all aspects.
