95 Points, Christopher Deas, Zachys Buying Team: "The Gran Reserva trilogy is now complete, this is a welcomed addition to the La Rioja Alta family as the Gran Reserva Viña Arana offers more approachability with more fruit purity, freshness and approachability - it is the more feminine of the three Gran Reservas. Whereas the iconic Gran Reserva '890' is more upright, rigid and stubborn, the GR Viña Arana is open and round, ready to be consumed today with seven years of age and ability to age another 15 years. Right from the nose it screams old world and transports you to Haro. On the palate this is a mouthful of expansive old vine Tempranillo and Graciano fruit that remains incredibly light on its feet. There is a spectrum of red fruit on display highlighted by notes of cherries and strawberries, coupled with tomato leaf, sweet tobacco, cedar, vanillin and subtle citrus nuances. With air the wine gains weight in the glass and this is a tremendous crowd pleaser for today that will be a hit on the table or walking around at a gathering. While more open than its two siblings it remains a savory old-world wine that can please the Francophile, while satisfying the ardent Rioja enthusiast."
