Zachys Notes
93+ Points, Christopher Deas, Zachys Buying Team: "Wow, here is a wine that will make you rethink Garnacha and transport you to Spain in one sniff and sip. However, that is only part of the ride. This is serious, terroir-driven Garnacha that needs two hours in the decanter to open up and can certainly age ten years. There is a yin and yang to the wine, where the limestone soils and high altitude yield a leaner, more finesse-driven expression that is high-toned and savory and unlike any Garnacha we have experienced from Navarra. But like true Garnacha there is a silky, fruit driven component that offers contradicting ripeness and concentration. The wine begins austere at first and with aeration delivers ripe, almost sweet red fruits, macerated black cherry rinds, perfumed black berries, licorice, spice and an awesome, chalky minerality. This is high-toned Garnacha that can age. What great little Spanish secret you won't find elsewhere as there is just 500 cases or so produced."
Wine Advocate Notes
95 Points, Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate: "The 2014 La Dama, as with the El Terroir bottling, is produced with Garnacha grapes from vines planted starting in 1903. They told me they consider 2014 a beautiful vintage, healthy and balanced (although the organic and biodynamic vineyards then to be healthy and balanced every vintage!), and a pleasure to vinify. 2014 is a very complete vintage, with ripeness and freshness, elegance and power. This La Dama is a great example of it. They select the wines from stonier vineyards, where the soils are shallower and the mother rock is very close to the surface. These plots tend to produce more austere, mineral and elegant wines, where the chalkiness of the tannins talks about the limestone soils. This has to be among the finest Garnacha produced in Spain. This shows more elegant than any previous years, possibly the best vintage to date. Bravo!! " 6/17
