Wine Advocate

92 Points, Mark Squires, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Riesling Noble Select Josef Vineyard, to be released later this year, comes in with 386 grams per liter of residual sugar and 7.8% alcohol. All the grapes were affected by botrytis. Needless to say, this is a full-on dessert wine. It was fermented in a mixture of neutral oak and stainless steel. Fred Merwath said that 2015 tended to produce high sugar levels (the Magdalena Noble Select came in about 100 grams less in sugar in 2016 than 2015), and this sure has that, perhaps to a fault. Now, it is saved by the botrytis, which gives it a great nose and some distinction, but it is so rich that it does reach the point of being a little syrupy. It is certainly one to drink nicely chilled. All that said, it just tastes so great that you may start drooling after a few sips. I'm by no means implying that this is bad, just that I prefer the balance on the HJW Noble Select this issue. This is still pretty delicious and completely decadent. More than its siblings even, this needs a decade in the cellar to lose some baby fat. Until it does, it will be a little hard to fully evaluate. It should hold for decades." 06/19
