96 Points, Christopher Deas, Zachys Buying Team: "Here is a wine that you will have a hard time finding, a phantom Reserva from the Grand Cru like vineyard of the region and the hands of Spain's most talented winemaking team led by Peter Sisseck and Carlos del Rio. From the cool and long 2013 vintage, this is the latest harvest in the history of the estate. It is should be noted that the wine was mistakenly reported by the media that there was no Reserva produced and is difficult to find. This is not your typical, over extracted, blue fruited Ribera del Duero, there is a high toned and classic element to the wine. The wine is a mainly a blend of Tempanillo and Cabernet Sauvignon from the El Picon plot - it is here the soils have the highest concentration of limestone and it shows through in the wine! We found the wine to be explosive right out of the bottle with the underlying minerality, Cabernet, and coolness of the vintage screaming through Ribera del Duero's signature fruit generosity. While approachable, it is amazing how well the tannins soften and integrate, and just how silky this wine becomes with a three hour decant. Expect to find nuances of red and black fruit - black cherry, black currant, crushed violets, dried herbs, chalk and granite. This is easily one of the finest expressions of Ribera del Duero and is a wine that get you excited about the region. This is a must for the serious Spanish enthusiast."
