James Suckling

90 Points, James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com: "Lots of strawberry and orange peel aromas and flavors. Full, deep and very dry."

John Gilman

94 Points, John Gilman, View from the Cellar: "The 2014 vintage-dated bottling of Cumières from Vincent Laval hails from a single vineyard parcel called la Cave Thomas in the commune, which lies on the border with the neighboring village of Hautvillers, though the name of the vineyard does not appear on the label. It is composed of a blend of fifty-eight percent pinot noir and forty-two percent chardonnay in 2014. The nose is gorgeous, jumping from the glass in a blaze of passions fruit, apple, tangerine, complex minerality, a touch of warm biscuits and a topnote of orange blossoms. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and already very complex, with excellent mineral drive and grip, pinpoint bubbles, snappy acids and great focus and grip on the very long, perfectly balanced finish. This is outstanding juice in the making!" 05/19, Issue #81

Wine & Spirits

92 Points, Joshua Greene, Wine & Spirits: "Georges and Nicole Laval gained organic certification for their vineyards in Cumières in 1971; their son, Vincent, came on board in the 1990s and makes the wines today, including this cuvée based on the 2014 vintage. It's a blend of chardonnay (50 percent), pinot noir (30 percent) and meunier fermented in oak barrels. At first, it feels aggressively naked, with apple and sandalwood notes and nonstop minerality. There's a cidery side to the flavors that had one taster suggest the wine was "courting hipsters," but that melds into the mineral tones that emerge with air." 12/17
