Echezeaux Bouchard 2016 (750ML)

90-92 Points, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous: "Good red-ruby color. Sexy, inviting scents of candied dark berries, raspberry, mocha and licorice. Then fat, plush and fine-grained but not as sweet as the nose suggests; there's even something a bit roasted here. Finishes with decent acidity and solid structure but comes across as rather disjointed today and hard to assess. Winemaker Weber says he may have used too high a percentage of whole clusters and gotten too much stem tannins as a result. (Incidentally, in 2017 Bouchard will have two different bottlings of Echézeaux, one domain and one négoce.)" 1/18

92-94 Points, Burghound: " A pungent nose is composed by notes of reduction and wood toast. There is outstanding volume, size and weight to the broad-shouldered, intense and energetic flavors where the supporting tannins possess a high level of phenolic maturity while culminating in an impeccably well-balanced finish. This succulent and velvety effort is deceptively firmly structured and will need at least a modicum of patience." 4/18

90-92 Points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy: "Domaine (En Orveaux, frosted) plus purchased grapes from Echezeaux du Dessus where they look after the vines. This has quite a classy nose, with good depth. A touch of prune in the middle, then a bit more lifted fruit, not quite harmonious but of interest nonetheless."
