Zachys Notes
95 Points, Christopher Deas, Zachys Buying Team: “We tasted beside the 2015 Bonneau du Martray beside a 1990 Bonneau du Martray sample from our upcoming auction for a tremendous look at the evolution of this iconic wine from two ripe vintages. What we found is that the new release is deceivingly approachable today with its riches from the 2015 vintage, and the profound 1990 is still, shockingly, holding on to its youth, showing glimpses of the greatness to come. Both wines benefitted with significant air-time – a decant or slow-o is heavily recommended here. This is a white Burgundy that Zachys appreciates in ripe years, as the layers of fruit bode well with the coiled core of minerality that awaits underneath. There is truly a yin and yang quality here with its generosity that is accompanied by it persistence and precision. That being said, the 2015 is a wine that can be enjoyed now if served accordingly, and it will dazzle. This is one of those wines to buy a few bottles and check in periodically over the next two to three decades. With air, expect awesome notes of fresh and vibrant citrus, meyer lemons pineapple, and lime that echo into nuances of apples, white peach, honey, almonds, smoke, chalk, and sea salt. This is one of the most palate-staining wines we have had from the 2015 vintage, and the finish goes on for minutes. In cooler years, this wine can be uninviting and tends to go in the direction of Grand Cru Chablis with its acidity, purity and minerality. We welcome the additional fruit and concentration in this vintage and agree with Stephen Tanzer here – Bravo!”
Wine Advocate Notes
90-92 Points, Neal Martin, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a very pretty, quite seductive bouquet with disarming scents of lemon curd, white peach and Mirabelle, well defined and the oak neatly integrated. The palate is very well balanced with very good weight in the mouth, a lightly brush of honey, praline, hints of almond and a touch of sea salt towards the finish. I appreciate the subtle mineralité here that flourishes as this Corton-Charlemagne opens with aeration." 12/16
Vinous Media
95 Points, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous: Light straw-yellow. Deep, soil-inflected aromas and flavors of white stone fruits, clove, hazelnut, marzipan, white pepper, smoke and minerals, with a note of orange bitters emerging after extended aeration. Wonderfully rich, silky and mouthfilling but not at all heavy, showing considerable baby fat for young Corton-Charlemagne but with a powerful stony underpinning. Seriously rich, ageworthy wine with a touch of dusty tannins and palate-saturating breadth and salty length. This wine is seriously satisfying right now but should undergo dramatic transformation over the years as it burns off some of its baby fat, which it started to do with 72 hours in the recorked bottle. A star of the vintage, showing no sign of heat or blurriness and communicating a very strong if fully ripe impression of terroir." 1/17
Burghound Notes
92-94 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound: " There is a discreet tropicality to the super-fresh nose of pear, apple, petrol and viognier-like aromas. The exceptionally rich, concentrated and intense medium weight plus flavors possess a lovely sense of vibrancy that continues onto the dry and even slightly austere finale. While not exactly classic in style, this beautifully textured effort is less 2015 in character than one might expect." 6/17
