It was cropped at 16 hectoliters per hectare (compared to 38 hectoliters per hectare in 2017). It easily is blessed with the finest aromatics from the domaine: red and black fruit, fine mineralité with just a hint of tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy black fruit, a fine bead of acidity-real personality here, with a very pure and tensile finish that lingers in the mouth. I like the way it just keeps rolling across the senses. This is extremely sophisticated and full of breeding." 12/17

93-95 Points, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous: "Deep red with ruby tones. Aromas of black cherry and licorice complicated by smoky minerality. The plushest and sweetest of this set of 2016s, but also with lovely energy and mineral lift to its flavors of black cherry and violet. Finishes dusty and very long, with an obvious element of wood tannins but no dryness. Boasts a terrific combination of density and precision. And as with the estate's Grands-Echézeaux, this wine has not been knocked off balance by the tiny crop level." 11/17

95 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound: "At the risk of sounding like a broken record, this too has just enough reduction to reduce the expressiveness and freshness of the otherwise layered nose that is even more floral though less spicy with its dark berries and newly turned earth scents. The sleek, intense and muscular flavors possess equally impressive size, weight and power though the hugely long and youthfully austere finish is arguably even longer. This is a really impressive wine that I believe merits receiving the benefit of the doubt."

95-97 Points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy: "It is the style rather than the quality which separates this wine from the Grands Echezeaux. Huge dense purple, the nose is backward but powerful, a bit more in a straitjacket. Yet on the palate this wine shows amazing density, a liquid coulis of black cherry and dark raspberry fruit, very intense, linear, with precision and backbone. Could be my Clos de Vougeot of the vintage." 2016
