While the straight Felsina and Fontodi Chianti Classico Normale are our go to house wines for Chianti, and Italian wines as a whole, they do command 50% more in price - this little overachiever pleases at under $16 while conveying its Tuscan DNA. And from the classic, but ripe, 2016 vintage, this is one of the most crowd-pleasing expressions of Sangiovese in the under $20 price point. Soft and pleasing with its explosive and juicy red and black fruit, marked by ripe cherry nuances, pomegranate, lavender, spice and a touch of Tuscan earth and minerality. Not as complex and upright as the Felsina and Fontodi, but loads of charm and approachability. You will simply have a hard time beating this price."
