93 Points, Christopher Deas, Zachys Buying Team: "Bottled now as Tenuta Tignanello Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva, the Sangiovese comes from estate owned vineyards of Tenuta Tignanello and is very much as Antonio Galloni describes, the second wine of the flagship Tignanello. There is some complimentary Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon here, and this is one of the most approachable, and silky expressions, we have tasted to date. There is a juicy plushness and smoothness from the generosity of fruit from the ripe 2015 vintage, expect a depth of red and black fruit with nuances of black licorice, spice, tobacco, leather, and autumn earth. It is not a lean Sangiovese expression, but classic just the same. This is simply enjoyable, conversation and food friendly Chianti Classico Riserva that is both crowd pleasing while offering some ageability."

92+ Points, Monica Larner, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva Marchese Antinori is Sangiovese sourced from across the 130-hectare Tignanello estate with 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot added to the blend. Only 20% of the wine is aged in new oak (barrique and tonneaux from France and Hungary), while the rest goes into neutral barrels. What stands out first is the soft or fleshy nature of the tannins. They are sweet, yet the wine is held together with firm grip and backbone. The aromas are vibrant and dark with mature fruit followed by fragrant rose hip, forest berry and chalky mineral." 9/18.

Similar to its big brother, Sangiovese is rounded out with Cabernet Sauvignon (plus Merlot) and ageing is in a combination of small French and Hungarian oak barrels. It's on the dark end of the fruit spectrum, revealing brambly blackberry flavours, though polished leather, tobacco and wood spice add dimension.
