Wine Advocate

94+ points, Monica Larner, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: “This wine made from a vineyard that is planted to 36 experimental biotypes of Sangiovese is always fascinating. The Mazzei 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Fonterutoli Vicoregio 36 does not stray too far from the Sangiovese playlist, no matter which clone leads the blend, with bright cherry and fresh acidity. It shows terrific varietal purity thanks to blue flowers, wild herbs and soft earthy sensations. Despite its delicate bouquet, this wine offers good structure with fully integrated tannins.” 04/22

James Suckling

94 Points,James Suckling: "There’s sweetness of fruit and finesse to this, giving a creamy texture and plenty of cherry, berry, and rose-water character. It’s medium-to full-bodied with integrated tannins that are soft and creamy. Succulent finish. A little tight at the end, but will open nicely in a year or two. Best from 2023." 08/21

Wine Spectator

93 Points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator: "Resin and vanilla aromas and flavors frame the cherry, iron and herbal notes in this tightly wound red, which is linear, elegant and long on the finish, but needs time to absorb the oak. Best from 2024 through 2040."
