Not only does this wine impress on the nose, it is super tasty today on the palate with awesome vibrancy to accompany the generous fruit. Expect to find nuances of black cherry, red licorice, cinnamon, dried fruit, tar, and hints of baked earth to come with a little more age. It truly is a wine that screams Tuscany from the glass and alongside the Il Poggione Rosso di Montalcino, this is once again our go-to Italian house wine. The bouquet starts off with black fruit and light shadings of spice, but the best part is in those mineral aromas of flint and slate. Serve it with stuffed red peppers. The annata, which has been made since 1967, is a selection of grapes coming from these different parcels. It has inviting, fragrant anise and tarragon aromas followed by a palate offering luscious, fleshy cherries with a fine tannic grip. Appetising minerality kicks in at the end, lingering on the finish.” 02/19
