Vinous Media
90+ Points, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous: "(production was down 50% from normal): Pale lemon-yellow. Very reticent nose hints at lemon drop and oak char. Then chewy, penetrating and rather powerful on the palate, conveying a strong impression of structure and an element of grape skins that borders on rustic. Boasts an inherent opulence to its citrus peel and mineral flavors but this is very backward today and much less expressive than the Abbaye de Morgeot, with its tannins currently shutting down its fruit. Clearly in an awkward stage and in need of cellaring. My current score may ultimately look overly conservative." 9/18
John Gilman
92 Points, John Gilman, View From The Cellar: "Along with the Marquis de Laguiche bottling of Morgeot, the Duc de Magenta bottling is probably the best-known example from this vineyard, as it hails from the very heart of Morgeot, and as the name implies, the vines here lie right next to the ancient chapel. The 2016 is an excellent wine and had no trouble following up the outstanding Genevrières this year, as it offers up a fine and complex nose of apple. lemon, chalky minerality, apple blossoms, vanillin oak and a nice touch of orange zest in the upper register. On the palate the wine is crisp, full and vibrant, with a lovely core, fine focus and grip, very good soil signature and a long, poised and zesty finish. (Drink between 2021-2050)" 03/18
Wine Enthusiast
95 Points, Wine Enthusiast: "Rich and luscious while also structured, this wine is packed with ripe fruit and spice from wood aging. It comes from a walled vineyard, part of an estate managed by Louis Jadot. This wine has density along with a strong textured character that will allow it to age. Drink from 2023. " 04/19
