Vinous Media
92-94 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous: "The 2018 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from contracted fruit sourced from the lieu-dit of Aux Charmes. Deep and noticeably limpid in color, it has a gorgeous, pure and sensual bouquet that shows more composure than the Corton Grand Cru. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins and more backbone than the Corton. The lively, spicy, black pepper-tinged finish lingers in the mouth. Excellent."
Burghound
91-93 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound: "Generous wood and menthol aromas are present on the softly earthy and spicy nose of very ripe plum liqueur and wild dark berries. The fleshy, round and delicious medium eight flavors possess a caressing yet reasonably powerful mouthfeel, all wrapped in a lingering finish that slowly firms up as it sits on the palate. At present, this doesn't appear to have quite the same excellent depth of material as the best of these grands crus." 04/20 Issue #78
John Gilman
93 Points, John Gilman, View From The Cellar: "The Drouhins changed sources for their Charmes-Chambertin bottling several years ago and the new plot of vines is right in the heart of the upper section of aux Charmes, just across the Route Nationale from Chambertin. Their 2018 version is stellar, wafting from the glass in a refined and sappy nose of black cherries, sweet dark berries, grilled meats, espresso, dark soil tones, woodsmoke, mustard seed and cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and quite powerful for this bottling, with a rock solid core, fine focus and grip, ripe tannins and a long, nascently complex finish. I would guess that this is fully fourteen percent in octane this year, but carries it very well and will be an impressive bottle in due course. 2030-2075+." 12/19 Issue #89
