Burghound
89-92 Points, Allen Meadows' Burghound: "This too is quite ripe though by no means surmature, offering a mix of black cherry and blue berry accompanied by ample earth and game hints that continue onto the rich, sweet, textured and fleshy flavors that are generous but not soft on the opulent and deep finish." 1/07
John Gilman
93 Points, John Gilman, View from the Cellar: "Domaine Rousseau Charmes-Chambertin) The Rousseau Charmes is one-third from Charmes-Chambertin and two-thirds from Mazoyères-Chambertin, and the vines in both sections are now more than forty years old. I tasted a lot of terrific examples of Charmes on this trip, and the Rousseau 2005 is another stellar example of the vineyard. The very pure bouquet is deep, closed and very, very precise, as it offers up a classic mélange of strawberries, cherries, great minerality, roses, great spice and just a touch of coffee. On the palate the wine is full-bodied (really much deeper than is customary for this cru chez Rousseau, though still retaining all of the elegance and harmony of more delicate examples), focused and intensely flavored, with a beautiful core of fruit, blazing delineation and transparency, fine-grained tannins and great cut and tang on the very long, minerally finish. Yet again, this is the best young example of Rousseau Charmes that I have ever tasted- by quite some margin. A brilliant result in 2005 (Drink between 2013-2040)." 12/06
