94-96 Points, Neal Martin, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Containing 40% whole bunch fruit, the 2016 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has a well-knit, focused bouquet with blackberry and briary scents, cold wet stone and hints of black truffle. With time, there is a faint smokiness that begins to develop. The palate is very well balanced with sappy black fruit tinged with wild strawberry and blood orange. This has superb structure, not overly tannic, but it exerts a gentle and insistent grip. This is a riveting Chapelle-Chambertin from Jean-Louis and Jean Trapet." 12/17

Deep aromas and flavors of dark plum and pungent minerals hint at superripeness but also show good energy and lift. Dense, chewy and suave, offering a captivating balance of sucrosité and vinosity. Firm tannins are nicely supported by the wine's natural concentration. Finishes with excellent length and plenty of early personality." 11/17

On the plus side there is excellent volume and concentration to the bigger and richer flavors that are at once elegant but powerful while delivering a velvety and hugely long finish. While there is a certain seductive aspect to this wine the very firmly structured finish makes clear that it's altogether serious." 1/18

94 Points, John Gilman, View from the Cellar: " The 2016 Chapelle-Chambertin chez Trapet is another powerful and sappy wine. The bouquet is vibrant and complex, delivering a fine constellation of black plums, black cherries, espresso, venison, dark soil tones, a hint of cocoa powder, vanillin oak and a quite exotic topnote of eucalyptus. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and primary in profile, with a sappy core, excellent soil signature, excellent focus and grip, fine-grained tannins and a very, very long, primary finish. This is still quite adolescent and will need a good decade of bottle age to start to stir, but it will be excellent in the fullness of time. 2026-2075." 11/17
