Neil Martin

92+ Points, Neal Martin, Vinous: "The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Sentiers was touched by the frost and the old vines here suffered according to Nicolas Groffier. Due to depleted quantities it is 100% whole bunch fruit matured in one-third new oak. It has a lifted bouquet with blackberry, black cherry and hints of blue fruit, a subtle mineral tension underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with a strict, quite saline entry, rather peppery thanks to the stem addition. A structured but fresh finish that is complex and cerebral rather than willing to please at this early stage. Cellar this away for a decade and I believe it will repay your patience. Tasted at the Domaine." 3/19

Vinous Media

91-93 Points, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous: "(made entirely with whole clusters and aged in one-third new oak): Deep, bright red. A step up in complexity from the Haut-Doix, with musky strawberry, raspberry and stone aromas and flavors complicated by a gamey nuance and accented by pepper-and-spice stem notes. Lovely silky, harmonious wine with an old-vines creamy concentration and suave balancing acidity. Vibrant and transparent to its terroir but not a bit hard. Finishes with broad, fine-grained tannins and a piquant touch of minerality. Nicolas Groffier believes that some of his 2016s--and especially this one--will shut down in bottle in about five years." 1/18

Wine Spectator

95 Points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator: "Enticing and complex aromas and flavors of wild berry, cherry, rose, sandalwood are married to a firm structure. The overall impression is one of harmony and finesse, with a lingering aftertaste. Best from 2022 through 2042." 10/18
