Chambolle Musigny Les Fuees JF Mugnier 2015 (750ML)

A Burgundy Domaine that dates to the 1880s is expected to have access to some of the most prestigious sites in the Cote d'Or, but the story of Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier really begins in 1985 when the 4th generation of Mugniers took the help with an entirely different, and philospophical approach to winemaking. The resulting non-interventionist switch to more delicate production methods (no punch downs and less bâtonnage), and an effort to regain control of exquisite Chambolle Musigny sites that had been leased to Drouhin and Faively, among others. Today, they have single-handedly made Chambolle Musigny wines among the most coveted wines in Burgundy.

Neil Martin

93 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous: "The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru has a perfumed bouquet that displays a subtle marine, oyster shell tincture. It is more backward than Ghislaine-Barthod's own Fuées, but focused and clearly delineated. The palate is well-defined and grippy, displaying a fine bead of acidity and more tannic backbone than its peers. Perhaps there was a slightly longer extraction here, leading to a more muscular finish, yet the wine is still endowed with finesse and sophistication. You’re just going to have to wait longer for it. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting." 09/18

Burghound

93 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound: "A more elegant array is composed by notes of airy black cherry, violet and plum where additional breadth is present in the form of spice and lavender nuances. The sleek, rich and well-detailed flavors exude evident minerality that carries over to the balanced, clean and dry-in-the-best-sense finish that flashes a hint of youthful austerity. Lovely." 01/18 Issue#69

John Gilman

92 Points, John Gilman, View From the Cellar: "The 2015 les Fuées from Monsieur Mugnier is a good example of the vintage, offering up a sappy and black fruity blend of black cherries, black plums, raw cocoa, gamebird, a touch of nutskin, chalky soil tones and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine deep, full-bodied and plush in personality, with a good core, ripe tannins and a long, primary and well-balanced finish. This needs some time to unlock its secondary layers of complexity. 2027-2065+. 05/20 Issue #87
