Brunello di Montalcino Cielo d`Ulisse Podere le Ripi 2013 (750ML)
94 Points, Monica Larner, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I always feel like I've entered a vinous fairyland when I taste the wines made at Podere le Ripi. These are highly distinctive expressions that offer flurries of the unreal and unexpected. In the case of the 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Cielo d'Ulisse, the aromas dart around like Tinker Bell touching on red cherry, raspberry, licorice, cola and grilled herb. Each one of those characteristics is suddenly made bright and alive as if by a magic wand. A new vineyard parcel was recently purchased on the eastern side of the Brunello appellation, and fruit for this wine comes from this new, biodynamic site." #235, 2/18.

Vinous Media
93 Points, Ian D'Agata, Vinous: "Bright red. Underbrush, tobacco and red cherry on the nose. Then fresh and juicy, displaying an austere mouthfeel and delicate red berry flavors. Finishes long and clean with a light saline touch. Made with a blend of grapes from Marchesato degli Aleramici (70%) and Le Ripi (30%). The wine's name, a reference to Ulysses and the Odyssey, was originally thought up for the estate's Syrah wine (in owner Francesco Illy's amusing, whimsical storytelling style of conversation, Syrah is a traveler that has been all over the world guided by the stars in the sky)."
Decanter
92 Points, Michaela Morris, Decanter: "A new offering from coffee baron Francesco Illy's biodynamically farmed property in Castelnuovo dell'Abate. While the estate is known for particularly high density plantings (up to 62,500 vines per hectare), this represents a more standard 4,000. Aged entirely in large casks, it reveals a tangle of wild, sunbaked herbs, cherry and sandalwood. The tannins are smooth and sophisticated, with great depth of fruit to match and plenty of energy right through to the saline finish." 2/18
