The rumors are absolutely true. 2020 completes the trilogy of excellent Bordeaux vintages that are worth buying early at competitive pricing. Neal Martin called it, “The headline is that 2020 is an excellent vintage.” And Antonio Galloni added his thoughts noting, “The most important signature of 2020 is a balance of richness and energy that is highly unusual. The wines sizzle with brightness and mineral-drenched vibrancy.” He confirmed our assessment that, “readers will find many fabulous wines on both the Left and Right Banks, but on a château-by-château basis.” It is a terroir vintage, where collectors should seek out their buys château by château, keeping in mind that limestone and clay soils excelled, along with those earlier Médoc terroirs with deep, well-draining gravels. For us, while the quality rivals both 2018 and 2019, we’d add with more freshness and tension in places, it is truly a vintage where the finest expressions remind us of the great classics and benchmarks of 2010 and 2016.
