93 Points, John Gilman, View From the Cellar: "The 1988 Drouhin Bonnes-Mares is further along its evolutionary path than the '88 Griotte from Joseph Drouhin, and though it still has a fair bit of acidity on the finish, the wine has opened up considerably more on both the nose and palate. The bouquet is stunning, offering up a quintessential Bonnes-Mares blend of plums, black cherries, singed heather, earth, venison, mustard seed, coffee and a bit of charred wood. On the palate the wine is full-bodied and quite opulent on the attack, with a great core of fruit, melting tannins, great focus, and a very long, complex and tangy finish. Much like the '88 Griotte, there is almost a spike of acidity popping out on the finish, which keeps the score down just a bit. If it fully resolves over time, this will be a reference point bottle of Drouhin Bonnes-Mares." 4/06
