Zachys

97+ Points, Christopher Deas, Zachys Buying Team: "Tasted five times. From the prized limestone plateau, this is truly one of the most terroir-driven wines of Saint-Ăƒâ€°milion. Despite all its critical acclaim and perfect/near-perfect ratings over the years, it remains relatively quiet and under the radar. For insiders that appreciate and know this wine, you know how difficult it can be to find back vintage selections, as production is limited. The allure of the 2014 is that it is one of the wines of the vintage for the region and remains a relative value. A pull of the cork reveals an intoxicating nose of earth, red and black fruits, and crushed flowers. This is a young wine, aging and decanting is recommended. On the palate, there are layers of soft inviting fruit dancing on substantial minerality, energy and structure underneath. Expect nuances of blackberries, plums, cherries, smoke, wet earth, herbs, and an inner perfume that echoes throughout the palate on to a long finish. On day two, the wine integrates nicely and gains in weight. This is one of the tiny treasures along the Bordeaux trail with its ancient, underground Ausone-like caves, and is one of our absolute must purchases from the historic trio of 2014, 2015 and 2016. "

Wine Advocate

"91 Points, Neal Martin, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: ""The 2014 Beausejour (Duffau Lagarrosse) was an intriguing and quite mercurial Saint Emilion when I tasted it from barrel. Now in bottle, it has developed a quite compelling bouquet, very pure with black cherries, iodine, potpourri and crushed violets. The intensity is very impressive. The palate is medium-bodied with almost rigid tannin. This is a masculine wine, perhaps one that has closed down after bottle since it was so expressive from barrel. It is much more linear than I was expecting, even with a touch of hardness on the finish. It is a rather enigmatic Saint Emilion, one tricky to pin down at the moment. Hopefully more flesh will surface with bottle age and just balance out that strict finish. Let's see where this will go. Certainly I would not broach this for a few years."" 3/17"

Antonio Galloni

"97 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous: ""An utterly spellbinding wine, the 2014 BeausĂƒÂ©jour HĂƒÂ©ritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse is also one of the unqualified successes of the vintage. Beams of tannin give the 2014 its ample, broad feel. Inky red cherry, blueberry, smoke, leather and tobacco fill out the wine's big frame effortlessly. Layers of intense fruit meld into a huge spine of tannin in a vertical, massively structured Saint-Ăƒâ€°milion. So many 2014s are charming and accessible, but this is not one of them. Readers will have to be patient."" 2/17"
