    Zachys Notes
93+ Points, Christopher Deas, Zachys Buying Team: “Tasted two times. A decant of two hours recommended. The hallmarks of what makes Nebbiolo so noble and alluring are here and it brings with it the signature colors of brick red, garnet, and orange hues that fill the glass and give way to aromatics that can be smelled across the room; we are once again talking intoxicating notes of red fruits, roses, spice, dried herbs, and licorice. There is that signature Aldo Conterno almost sweet-succulent red raspberry and black cherry note that separates them from others on the hill. You smell it, and you know right away you are drinking an Aldo Conterno Barolo. These notes continue on the palate, and are joined by a spectrum of nuances that include dried red cherries, rose petals, orange peel, tea, part of the spice rack marked by cinnamon, chalky minerality and a touch of herbs on the finish. This is a textbook example of classic Barolo, done by the King of Barolo from this classic vintage. It does offer some deceiving approachability with air, as there is generous fruit to accompany the massive structure that is Nebbiolo from a vintage like this. Decant and age. Bravo.”
    Wine Advocate Notes
It may be a so-called entry level Barolo, but the 2013 Barolo Bussia definitely delivers the goods. Fruit is sourced from three separate points within the larger Bussia cru. These sites are characterized by clay soils with southeast exposures and approximately 25-year-old vines. The quality of fruit is very intense and defined with dark cherry and dried blackberry. Yet the mouthfeel is ethereal, light and buoyant. Keeping in line with the vintage, the tannins are firm and slightly rigid. However, they are well absorbed by the exuberant nature of the fruit. The wine's personality is reminiscent of the Barolo Bussia Cicala.
    James Suckling Notes
96 Points, James Suckling: " Amazing aromas of cherries, oranges and light prunes with hints of wet earth and mushrooms. Very perfumed. It's medium-bodied, firm and direct. Great vino. Needs at least five years to come together but already a joy to taste." 7/17.
    Wine Spectator Notes
94 Points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator: “A fragrant style, offering rose, cherry, earth, mineral and cumin aromas and flavors. Young and tense, yet shows fine potential, with complex flavors, good structure and a long aftertaste. Best from 2023 through 2040.” 6/17.
