Achados e Perdidos Lost and Found Branco 2019 (750ML)
Achados e Perdidos means "lost and found" in Portuguese. The vineyard, located at the Volta de Andreza, is one of the most picturesque and steepest of the terraced bands along the Douro River. It is farmed organically and tended by two gentlemen, Francisco and Joao. The vineyard has 29 different grape varieties, 28 red and 1 white. The grapes are grown in black schists with some granitic sands present, and the vines are bush-trained and hand-harvested. The vineyard is centenarian in the minimum, but it could be 150-200 years old. No records exist that say for sure.
The Achados e Perdidos Branco is made from 100% Códega do Larinho, a variety grown in Douro and northeast Portugal. Traditionally, the grape was used to make white Port or blended with other white varietals and made as a table wine. After some minimal skin contact, the grapes are pressed and the juice is fermented via wild yeasts in stainless steel tanks with temperature control, then aged one year in bottle prior to release. It is a floral and fragrant wine exhibiting flavors of lemon, peach, melon, pineapple and field flowers. Often the wines made from Códega do Larinho lack acidity, but Achados e Periods shows bright acidity combined with extreme minerality much in part due to the black schist of its vineyard.
Flavors of lemon, peach, melon, pineapple and field flowers are often noted in Codega do Larinho wines.
