92 Points, Zachys Buying Team: “Where else can you find an aged Bordeaux at this price point that takes you to the Left Bank with one whiff? This is an under $27 gem that delivers pronounced and intoxicating aromatics of an aged claret, along with mature fruit and tertiary development on the palate. The tannins and fruit are well-integrated for a smooth, almost creamy texture that gives way to notes of stewed cherries and plum, underbrush, leather, tobacco, and baked earth. This is a classic Bistro Bordeaux to serve at home without an expensive price tag. If you like aged Bordeaux, or want to discover it, this is the perfect introduction.”

92 Points; Zachys Buying Team: “Here is something you do not see every day; a Pomerol find under $35 from the stand out Pomerol vintage of 2012. This little gem showcases the more classic side of the region without the over extraction found in some neighbors; and delivers with class and structure. The wine begins with firm glassy tannins underneath notes of deep dark fruit; blackberries; charcoal; and fresh pencil lead. With aeration; the wine softens and delivers a generous mouthful of fruit; revealing black cherry nuances while maintaining its underlying grip – the Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc really show up here with the Merlot. An awesome little Pomerol find that truly evolves in the glass. Serve today with aeration or age another five years.”

"93-94 Points, Zachys Buying Team: “The Second Label of the iconic Pomerol producer Vieux Château Certan is the La Gravette de Certan, named after a parcel of vines bought by the Thienpont family back in 1946. The quality at Vieux Château Certan has improved so much over the past decade that Robert Parker previously posted this quote from Alexandre Thienpont ""La Gravette de Certan is better in 2010 than many of the vintages of Vieux Château Certan produced in the 1970s."" Well, good news, 2014 follows suit here and should not be missed! Expect to find notes of sweet black cherries and mulberries matched with hints of cedar, tobacco and licorice."""

    Matras 2001 (750ML)

    Future Arrival
    • 93 ZR
    • SKU #421686

93 Points; Zachys Buying Team: “ This wine screams black truffles and olives and gets you excited about drinking Bordeaux! It is not often that we have an aged Grand Cru Classe at this price point that takes you to the Left Bank with one whiff – the 2000 Croque Michot was one find; but the nose is even more pronounced here. The Matras is an under $30 gem that delivers pronounced and intoxicating aromatics of an aged Saint-Emilion; along with mature fruit and tertiary development on the palate. With air the wine gains weight and the tannins become more integrated for a smooth texture that gives way to the same black truffles and olives on the nose; but with added notes of dried fruit; plum; blackberry; spice; tobacco; and baked earth. It is a savory expression with penetrating focus and is simply another classic Bistro Bordeaux to serve at home without the expensive price tag. It is a fun; extinct find that is no more; and you begin to understand why this historic property was purchased by the neighboring icon; Chateau Canon in 2011. Again; if you like aged Bordeaux; or want to discover it; this is the perfect another introduction.”

    Croque-Michotte 2000 (750ML)

    Future Arrival
    • 93+ ZR
    • SKU #418730

93+ Points, Christopher Deas, Zachys Buying Team: “Wow, we have been looking for a wine like this for some time – an aged Bordeaux with perfect provenance and under $30. It is our best value find since the best-selling 2000 Bertrand Braneyre, which became a staple at Zachys. Right from the glass there is pronounced aromatics, you can smell the wine from across the table, and one quick sniff sends you to the ancient village of Saint-Emilion. On the palate, it showcases characteristics of the ripe, 99-point vintage with its generous, soft and smooth texture – but with just enough structure and tannic muscle underneath to suggest there is a few more years left here to age further. Right now there are brilliant nuances of succulent red and black fruits, crème de cassis, leather, wet earth, coffee, and cocoa. We recommend serving at cellar temperature and letting the wine breathe for an hour as it will evolve and become more aromatic and expansive in the glass. This is a mature Right Bank that is drinking perfectly today!”
