Two years ago we had a very special Cotes du Rhone in the store that was affectionately referred to by the sales staff as "the Black Label”. Now this wine does have a real name— Cotes du Rhone Cuvee Lea Givaudin.
Time after time in the shop, all I heard was...• “Can we get the black label re-stocked right away?”• “Need a case of black label going out for a customer!”
Suffice it to say, this Cotes du Rhone was a huge success due to the artisanal nature of the estate and the richness and velvety texture of the wine. Our 200 case commitment was gone in less than 6 weeks! “Are you kidding me?!?!” was my response.
2009 is proving to be another SENSATIONAL vintage from the Southern Rhone. The new release of the “Black Label” is 2009. Will it last until the Fall? Not sure at this quality level!
