"Trendy..." "Fashionable..." and flat-out Fantastic Domestic White!
We keep hearing about how Viognier is a very "fashionable" grape right now; many people seem to be seeking out this often misunderstood (and more often mispronounced!) varietal. And we can see exactly why: Viognier is used in some of the best white wines in the world, and when a producer gets it right, the results are phenomenal.
Though this varietal calls the Rhone Valley home, producers in California have done some amazing things with the delicate yet powerful Viognier. Exhibit A: Alban Vineyards:
This is something that all Chardonnay lovers need to try. Viognier has the full body and luscious texture that you're looking for, as well as the bright aromatics and complexity that can be missing from many New World whites. This is a flat-out phenomenal wine for the price, and one that needs to be tasted to be believed!
Viognier - much more than just a trend!
