Top Score for Italian Rising Star!
We were right about this wine. There wasn't a doubt in our minds, but it's great to see Donnachiara winery continue to get the recognition it deserves!
This year we at Zachys had the opportunity to showcase Ilaria Pettito's wines at in-store tastings twice. We absolutely loved what she had to offer: complex yet widely appealing wines made using only traditional, biodynamic, and organic methods…all available for a jaw-droppingly fantastic price. Her wines are made exclusively from grapes native to Campania, and each one received fantastic press: Greco di Tufo, Falanghina, and Fiano di Avellino all made cameos. But her Taurasi was noticeably absent. Until now.
Thanks to Wine Spectator, the last member of the Donnachiara family of wines gets to join the party!!!
The introduction of this winery to the United States has brought with it renewed interest in Campania as a wine region, and has helped bring attention to Central Italian wine in general. And if its recent successes are any indicator, we'll continue to see Donnachiara reap awards and press for years to come.
This beautiful red wine is traditionally made from 100% Aglianico grapes, and now that the secret is out, we don't expect it to stick around for long. Cellar-worthy wine for less than $30? We're already bidding this beautiful wine farewell!
