Reference Point Producers

David Lavantureux of Domaine Lavantureux; Massimo Padova of Riovfavara; and Serge Frigoule of Domaine Le Sang des Cailloux.

At first blush this might seem like a random pairing of producers, spanning from the northern reaches of Burgundy, to the island of Sicily. That is until you delve deeper, as each of these phenomenal estates are considered reference points for typicity and premium caliber for their regions:

David Lavantureaux of Domaine Lavantureux hails from the Portlandian soils of Petite Chablis & Kimmeridgian rich soils of Chablis where produces some of the most unwaveringly consistent Chablis and Petite Chablis. The mouth-watering classic aromatics of chalk, green apples and lemons are in no short supply from this distinctly Chablisienne producer in the 2008 vintage.

Massimo Padova of Sicilian estate, Riofavara, sets the gold standard for Nero d’Avola and is recognized for reversing the trend of high-octane reds from the legendary island of Sicily. Riofavara has worked meticulously for their organic certification and is reaping the rewards by producing noble and ripe Nero d’Avola. This wine is still big, but there is no vulgarity in its presence, look for elegant tannins, sweeping cherry and booming depth.

Serge Férigoule’s Sang des Cailloux, or “blood of the stones”, is a staple of the Southern Rhone known for their Vacqueryas and cuvees named for each of Serge’s daughters. We will be shining a spotlight on Cuvee Azalias as well as their ultra-lux classic Vacqueryas. Using a traditional blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 5% Mourvedre, 5% Cinsault. The wines of Sang des Caillous have everything we love about the Southern Rhône – wild and chewy with great notes of leather, spicy garrigue, and smoky, black fruit.
