93pt White Perfect for Turkey Day
This summer when Robert Parker reviewed the Nostre Pais Blanc, and gave it a whopping 93 point score, I knew that it would be one of the perfect pairings for Thanksgiving.
The wine, stylistically, is also a good choice for Thanksgiving to begin with and with the 2011 vintage being as good as it is, this wine is an even better choice.
The only problem, it is a Costieres de Nimes Blanc. Now how many of you are familiar with Costieres de Nimes Blanc?…just what I thought, not so many.
Well thank you Mr. Parker for helping to bring a spotlight to the tiny production of Costieres de Nimes Blanc and it just so happens that this is the best of them in our opinion.
Michel Gassier is terrific producer in Southern France, based in Costieres de Nimes, that also produces plenty of other wines with his good friend Philippe Cambie in Cotes du Rhone, Chateauneuf du Pape and Gigondas to name a few. He and his family have a fascination with White Wine and it is no surprise to me to see the quality of the whites only increase and increase at this wonderful estate.
This is a must try and I stand by my recommendation that this is a good wine for Thanksgiving. Hey, even Michel agrees with me. He lived in the USA for years working as an Executive at Sarah Lee where he also met his wife. So, for a Frenchmen, he knows a thing or two about Thanksgiving!
