Bordeaux Vintage 2011
Our comprehensive offer of the 2011 Bordeaux vintage
From all the tastings that have been conducted in the first half of the year, including our own, the consensus is that the 2011 Bordeaux vintage is much better in quality than expected. The quality here is very good, much like 2001 (and dare we say “more classic” in profile).
There is no way around it, the 2011 vintage has produced some exceptional wines. We are glad that we continued our tradition of making the trip to Bordeaux each year to taste the wines first-hand and develop our “road map” of what to buy in the vintage. The team and I tasted hundreds of wines and we are offering what we feel are the top wines of the vintage across all appellations and price points.
There are plenty of pleasant and enjoyable wines in this vintage to some very good wines. In my opinion the vintage is shaping up to be a great consumers' vintage with wine of good quality and moderate aging potential; much like the 2001 vintage.

“It’s hard to make comparisons, but 2011 to me seems better than a number of recent years including 2008, 2007, 2006, 2004, and 2002. I also think the quality is better than 1999 and 1996. It’s on the same quality level, or slightly less, than 2001.” James Suckling 4/12.
