It is almost difficult to remember the original “small” store back when I purchased my first Bordeaux’s from the difficult 1975 vintage (so much potential, but never reached). Almost turned towards California because of the 1974 vintage, but the wait was worth it when the Bordeaux’s came roaring back with the 1982’s and so on. I will tell you that I have been purchasing wine from Zachys for several years now and that, over the years, there have been a couple of "bumps in the road". I will also tell you that EVERY TIME I have called with a concern, my issue has always been resolved to my satisfaction. Such is the case again this time. In dealing with companies over the internet, at long distance, I frequently feel at a disadvantage and often find myself feeling like I am open to being taken advantage of, or at least being poorly treated. While I will admit to having those feelings with Zachys on the front end of having issues, to your credit, they have ultimately never been justified. "Dear Mr. Zacharia, First, please let me thank all the good folks at Zachys for your special wine tastings. Since I knew next to nothing about wine until late 1998, they have helped me understand and appreciate how wonderful wine can be, especially with a good meal. The last time I saw you in the store you said, 'I've been drinking the stuff all my life.' I just wish I could say the same thing. When I first started my purchases of Bordeaux wine, I knew even less about them and absolute zero about futures. I took the advice in your "Gazette" and have spoken to Alex about these wines and have reserved some of the mid-range Margaux, St. Julien & Puillac and basic Medoc & Moulis from the vintage. Alex knows so much about these wines it is astounding!! Not only that, but he knows who runs the estates and how they actually make the wines and what kind of grapes go into them, etc. He is very patient and takes his time explaining the various Chateaux and what they have to offer. And if he must, he consults his notes and calls you back about it. Service: this is the fundamental reason why Zachys is the most enjoyable place to buy fine wines. Please thank Alex for me and keep up the the nice services. It's a real pleasure coming to your store and it's made even better because of Alex. "I’m an American living in Europe. On a recent trip to Colorado I spent a few days in New York for business reasons. I happened to see your ad about Bordeaux 2000 wines in the Wednesday, June 20 issue of the NY Times. I stopped by your store to speak with your Bordeaux expert, Mr. Alex Javadi. My intention was to buy a few cases of Bordeaux futures. Unfortunately, no prices were available on the wines I wanted. So I decided to buy a couple of bottles of wine for myself. After talking to Alex, instead of a couple of bottles, I ended up buying a whole case of wine!

I just want to tell you that Alex answered all my questions both knowledgeably and patiently. I liked the fact that he not only speaks the language of each region but understands the culture and the wines of each area. Alex encouraged me to be a bit more daring in my choices, and I have to say that I haven’t been the least bit disappointed in a single bottle. I can assure you that you’ve won over a loyal customer. I will be relocating to New York soon and I look forward to frequent visits to Zachys and more information and assistance from Alex. On a wine purchasing note. Please remind Alex of my still outstanding need for several years of Ch. Margaux. to fill my vertical collection for 84 forward. (Even though 84 was a very rough bad vintage, I would like to acquire a few bottles. I now order a case each year (since 94). My plan is to give each of my daughters a vertical of Margaux from their birthyear forward, on their wedding, with the reminder that marriage like fine wine has wonderful years to be treasured as well as hard years to be overcome. Perhaps a little sappy but thats okay - they will get some damn fine wine in the lecture. Thank you for all your help." Chuck, 1/01

"Just a note---A few days before christmas, I had not received all my order ( which was to be a Christmas present for someone). I called--expecting the preholiday, stessed out, difficult phone call (I had already been on the other side of phone madness all day!)--I spoke with Jeff who was unbelievably nice on the phone. I explained the problem, and he told me he look into the problem, and let me know. Within an hour I heard from him, and he said I'd have the reidel glasses the next day--------and they did, saving me from a last minute gift buying trip. I realize it was not a huge order, but Jeff made me feel that it was, and I felt the old addage "treat other's as you would like to be treated" was in full effect---Thanks for all the help--you certainly have a new customer , for the new millennium!"
