Chateau Cheval Blanc 1921 750ml

ASSESSMENT NOTES
1 Chateau Cheval Blanc 1921 750ml St. Emilion , Premier Grand Cru Classe (a) bottom neck, lightly bin-soiled label, rebouchee au chateau en 2000, Provenance: Christie's, December 6, 1979 This bottle was part of a lot consigned from the cellars of Dunwalke, the Dillon family estate in New Jersey, and sold at Christie's London on December 6, 1979 as An Important Sale of Wine, Château Haut Brion and other vintage wines of the highest quality. As the catalog stated at the time, 1921 was, "a year, like 1895, noted for its exceptional heat. Picking began fairly early on September 15. Haut-] Brion, Ausone and Cheval Blanc the best of the vintage." The catalog goes on to quote The Wines of Bordeaux, by E. Penning-Roswell, saying, "Every wine made after this exceptionally hot summer was overshadowed by the Cheval Blanc, one of the most extraordinary clarets I have ever drunk. Rather like the '47. . .it became a legend early in its life, and was expensive when most fine clarets were cheap."
